What does Brillo de Mujer mean?

Our Story

Brillo de Mujer is Spanish for, “a woman’s inner light, shining from within.” The founder of Brillo de Mujer Home is Patricia Lopez, a survivor of domestic violence and pastor of a church in the Lowcountry. She has a vision of a haven for hope and healing that will allow her fellow survivors to discover the light within their hearts that is already there. From that strength, the women will receive opportunities for housing, employment and education for herself and her children. Together, we are stronger.

The journey began with the opening of Tulips Thrift Store, a fundraising initiative created to help raise the necessary funds for the long-term shelter she envisioned.
Brillo de Mujer, now established as its own legal entity, is currently in the process of renovation and will be located in Hardeeville, SC. All profits generated by Tulips Thrift Store are dedicated to establishing and operating Brillo de Mujer Home, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for those in need.
We aim to provide long-term transitional housing for women and children escaping domestic violence. With the renovations of our current building, we will be able to house 6–10 women and families for extended stays, giving them the time, safety, and comprehensive support they need to heal, regain independence, and build brighter, violence-free futures.
